How CBD works for Sport

So, could CBD help you if you love sports? Yes, it could. Not only to get you in the mood to move but help you get back to what you love doing most if you feel any tenderness or soreness post workout.

The endocannabinoid system is a clever system made up of receptors that are located throughout the body and mind. You have the CB1 receptors, which exist in spinal cord, brain and the CB2 receptors, which are distributed in the immune system.

It’s believed these receptors can be activated by phytocannabinoids, just like CBD. If your body or mind becomes stressed in anyway and unbalances these receptors – CBD can be the supplement to put everything back in balance. When someone is suffering from low mood, pain, inflammation, or muscle damage it’s thought that cannabinoid can attach to CB1 receptors in the brain, potentially helping you experience a therapeutic, pain-relieving and calming effect.

Here at Well lab we like to do things differently. We very much believe in what is known as the entourage effect and evidence is growing to suggest that pure CBD used in isolation is not the best way to exploit cannabidiol for health purposes. In fact, specific combinations of CBD with terpenes and cannabinoids found both in the cannabis plant and other plants, serve to enhance its therapeutic effects especially when combined with specific herbs. Terpenes are aromatic compounds that are believed to have many varied health benefits.

When it comes to exercise, we can all from time to time need a boost to get our mind and body in the mood to move. If you are suffering from low moods, or would just like something to help you feel more uplifted our ENERGISE product could be perfect for you.

Containing Ashwagandha extract and Maca Root extract alongside our CBD formulations this product can help to reduce anxiety and stress, boost brain function, uplift low moods and both help bring focus.

Research has shown that ashwagandha may improve body composition and increase strength.

In a study to determine a safe and effective dosage for ashwagandha, healthy men who took 750–1,250 mg of pulverized ashwagandha root per day gained muscle strength after 30 days.

Also, in another study, those who took ashwagandha had significantly greater gains in muscle strength and size. It also more than doubled their reductions in body fat percentage, compared with the placebo group.

Muscle recovery, pain and injury

This recent study published in the International Journal of Physical Education, Sport and Health 2020 has shown that CBD oil can help relieve delayed onset muscle soreness and exercise induced muscle damage, which naturally occurs after physical activity due to microscopic damage to muscle fibres, since its healing properties are known to reduce muscle pain, bodily aches and inflammation.

Finding the right CBD dosage for Sport

When it comes to CBD oil and using it for either pre or post workout there is no right or wrong dose. Everyone on this planet is unique and finding the right dose is unique to you.

Everyone’s body and minds are different. So, when it comes to starting your CBD journey it’s time to really listen to yourself. You will quickly find the right dose.

We do however always recommend our customers start with a low dosage and then increase it as you see fit, in small increments.

When to take it again, depends on what you are using it for. It could be you want a morning boost to get you up and out there exercising first thing or you have run the furthest on your training schedule and need some post work out relief. Again, start to take your CBD around when you feel you need it and track your dose.

Here at Well lab we do recommend not using more than 70mg per day though, and if you’re already taking prescribed medication, you should consult your doctor before starting CBD oil.

Possible side effects to taking CBD oil

Most people find CBD oil makes a difference to their wellbeing, but in very small cases some people can experience side effects.

We suggest always starting slow by taking a low dose to begin with and see how you and your body and mind responds.

Once you feel an improved state, we suggest stopping there, because this means you have reached your perfect dosage. When you’ve reached that level, it can be tempting to keep taking more but it’s worth noting that increasing your dose may not boost the therapeutic effects any further. 

Also, remember it can take the body a few days to accumulate CBD oil, sometimes it isn’t absorbed straight away. So, do not rush to up your dose too quickly, we’d advise always giving it around three days.
